DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES

The Healthy House, along with the Director, Resident Assistant, mentors and peers from the larger recovery community provides:
 

  • Assistance to residents in securing permanent long-term  housing prior to being discharged from the Healthy House. Discharge planning should be discussed and begun at intake and reviewed and supported throughout the residents stay.

 

  • Individualized guidance on the principles of recovery

 

  • Promoting spiritual and personal growth by providing opportunities for daily meditation and reflection.

 

  • Assisting with connecting residents to community supports, i.e.  Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Community Mental Health and Behavioral Health services as well as recovery-oriented activities in the community.

 

  • Educating residents in basic skill development such as cooking, cleaning, social interaction/communication skills and problem solving skills, stress reduction, personal hygiene, money management and assistance with access to and utilization of various levels of community supports.

 

  • Peer support

 

  • Peer run groups

  • Peers assisting their peers in articulating their goals for recovery, learning and practicing new skills, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self help strategies based on the specialist's own recovery experience, and supporting them in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services. As residents progress in their recovery they become peer leaders to the newer residents.

 

  • Random Drug and Alcohol Screens and when a residents behavior is suspicious.

  • .

 

  • Weekly house meetings and as need arises.

 

  •  Daily one-on-one interaction with the Executive Director and Resident Assistant.

 

  • Locked medication and distribution, as prescribed, if applicable.

 

  •  A weekly recovery meeting for women only, attended by residents with their sponsors and/or mentors and peers from the community.

 

  • Incidents of non-compliance with house guidelines by individual residents will be treated in a trauma-sensitive and therapeutic fashion by staff and peers.
